THE LOT THAT VANISHED

A man once bought a hillside lot—his dream perch overlooking the glittering city below. Every morning, he imagined coffee on the veranda, the skyline unfolding like a painting.

Then came the rain. Days of it. Relentless, heavy, unending.

When the skies finally cleared, he drove up to visit his future home—only to find there was no home, no ground, no lot.

The mountain had given way, swallowing everything into the ravine.

His contractors confirmed the worst: rebuilding was possible, but absurdly expensive. The soil was gone, the slope unstable. It would cost more to resurrect the land than to let it go.

Here’s the thing—this wasn’t just a story. It actually happened. And when the buyer sought a refund, the developer declined, offering instead a condominium unit as replacement.

Lesson: When buying a lot, it’s worth checking the fine print—what happens if the land itself disappears because of erosion?
